Kitties are happy @ eight months of age!

The beautiful front porch "guests" are growing and healthy.  The top picture is Cali.  She is still not interested in us becoming bff's.  Below is Mama Kitty and Baby is lying on her belly.  Mama Kitty and I are very close.  She has come inside a couple of times to meet Laddie II & MacKenzie.  Baby seems to have recovered from her virus and has gone back to flying through the air on a whim.  She and I are getting much closer, she allows me to pet her on occasion, she purrs!  Mama Kitty and Baby are similar in temperament and are quite close. I am concerned that Baby's diet is largely moths.<sigh>

Welcome Fall 2012

We held a neighborhood yard sale Saturday which included me and my Mother, (who lives across the street).  We did not make much money, but, we had wonderful family time together which included my older sister, Cindy, her daughter, Alicia, and Alicia's daughter, Jordyn!  Later that afternoon John, Cindy's husband, drove over to Mother's on his motorcycle to check out the excitement and to help us carry into Mother's house what did not sale. I sold $200 worth of items for the whopping total of $38! lol We laughed so much all day, shared delicious food and tried all kind of schemes to help each other make sales.
My niece Jordyn is five.  I do not have an expressive vocabulary large enough to express just how delightful she is to be around.  She is smart, well mannered and blessed with a hilarious sense of humor!  I am looking forward to her spending the night with me next weekend.  She told me she wants to play Donkey Kong on the Wii and make art with me when she comes.  I am going to make ahead some fall and Halloween embellishments that she can use on her art.  I can't wait to post what she creates!
Happy Fall!!!

Brilliant Mama Cat & Her Two Baby Kittens September 2012

Mama Cat showed up with her babies one night and convinced me to take care of them.
I believed Mama to be feral, but in the last couple of weeks she has allowed me to pet her back.  Mama showed up on my front porch about six weeks ago and ran each time she saw me. I blocked out of my mind what I thought her story could be until I came home one night and through the light of my headlights, saw Mama and her two babies run off my front porch into the night.  After I saw the two babies this Mama's story I could no longer ignore  The next time I went to the store I purchased kitten food and I have been feeding the small feline family, morning and at night, for four weeks.  The Mama and babies are no longer skinny as you can see. The kittens never get close enough to be touched, so, I took these pics though my security door. I hope to be able to pick Mama up and take her to be spayed one day. I don't have any disposable cash at this time, even if she would allow me too, but that is my dream for her...

The words to the song "You Are My Sunshine" are included in the canvas to remember my brother Christopher. We use to sing this song together into my Great Grandmother's box fan when we were little children.  Miss you...

Christy and Junelle workshops Fall 2012

I am sooo excited about 2 workshop offered this fall by Christy Tomlinson. There are no workshops that offer more technique, content, joy and variety!!! The delightful and talented Junelle Jacobsen is offering Wild Abandonment 2 as well! She empowered me to attempt sketching which changed me from stick people drawing to being able to express myself realistically. I highly recommend these classes! Proctor's 50th Wedding Anniversary

This past Sunday I enjoyed attending my dear friend's 50th wedding anniversary, Carla and Billy Proctor!  The party was held at the Snowden Vacation Home in Mississippi, a perfect venue for a celebration.
There is a rich history between Memphis and the Snowden family.

We all had a lovely time as guests at Opal's and Ellie's last evening.  She served handmade grilled pizzas, (we chose the toppings), and I discovered my new favorite, cheddar beer chips.  Desert consisted of delicious homemade lemon ice cream with almonds and pound cake with blueberries . (picked from her brother's house)  We felt so at home, relaxed, and delightfully full as laughter filled the rooms.   Thanks for the joy Opal, Nancy, Lisa, Bettye and Ellie!

My Story

When I was little I loved to color.  I wasn't very good, or at least I did not think I was good enough.  At one point, instead of signing my first name to my coloring book pages, I began signing Chris, my younger brother's name. I thought they were good enough for him, he being three years younger than me, but, he saw what I had done and asked me to stop. So, what did I do?  I stopped coloring in my coloring books. When I doodled I would draw stick people, the house with a chimney, at tree, a couple of flowers, a sun, and birds flying over the house.  In my 30's I would draw my dog and cats on the inside of greeting cards I gave to my family.  You could barely tell what they were, but it was funny and it was the thought that counted, my fur family wanted to wish them a happy birthday too. In 2011 I was cruising through YouTube and came across a Tim Holtz  video. He caught my attention, not surprisingly, and I watched all his videos. I began to view other artist videos and decided I would give this art thing a try, just one more time.  I began with tags and distressed ink pads.  I purchased a Bigshot at Joannes online for a steal and off I went. I was so thrilled that I could create beyond my stick people and house scene and I caught the mixed media bug. First though, I created cards for friends, family and co-workers, trying out my new found techniques.  Tags were so helpful to me as well.  A small space so that I did not waste too many supplies if my art work project failed. I didn't really enjoy creating cards, although I still do make them, and created a whole lot of tags and gave them away in lieu of cards and referred to them as "bookmarks".  2011 Halloween and Christmas was a great time of discovery and delight as I began to explore different techniques and new supplies. Most importantly my confidence grew and I became proud to sign my name to my artwork for the first time in my life.  I have taken online classes with Christy Tomlinson, my new love, after finding Tim Holtz, and through her met Junelle Jacobson.  Through Face Book I have come in contact with so many magnificent artists, one being Kelly Barton, and dozen others.  What beautiful, talented, supportive souls they are and I thank them all from the bottom of my heart for their generosity.  These wonderful artists have changed my life for the better by giving me the courage to pick up the crayon and create art again.  Love to you all...

Kelly Barton, I copied by sketching onto a 4x4 canvas, didn't think I could, so I tried, and I did it!
